Seneca Lake SP 3/2/25

Given the frigid temperatures, you would not think that eight members would come out for a day in the Park. But we did, and were very happy that we did so. When we arrived, Dave Kennedy stopped to tell us he had just seen and photographed an American Pipit walking along the stone wall! We proceeded cautiously, eventually deciding to look over the wall among the icy, rocky rubble. And there it was, bobbing and weaving on longish legs. Sweet! Otherwise, there was a nice sampling of winter waterfowl.

American Pipit 1 Many thanks to Dave Kennedy for the tip on this rarity! Dave had seen and photographed the bird on the stone wall at the north end of Seneca Lake. Our group found the bird foraging among the rocks at the base of the wall, bobbing and weaving along the uneven ground. Drab brown, with streaking on the breast
