10 members of EBS (Kevin, Allyn, Martha, Paul, Nancy, Jim, Holly, Jill, Linda and Steve B) gathered at Sterling Nature Center for a birding walk, and with some luck we might tag a few Monarch butterflies. Well, we found a nice selection of birds (35 species), but Monarchs were a little thin and I failed to catch any. Maybe next year.
As to birds, the lake was very calm and with few birds, but we enjoyed a few quick views of a Nashville warbler early on. Someone called a Yellow warbler, but eBird questioned that and I could not say I saw it, so its not on the list below. I assume it may be an issue of timing, with perhaps the idea of Yellows most likely have already gone?
The most challenging ID was perhaps the raptor perched with its back to us on the far side of the marsh and fairly backlit. Osprey and Bald eagle came up, but then it finally moved a bit, and stood up, and with Paul's photo, it was obviously a Peregrine. NICE!
Beautiful place and a fun group to be out there with. Good day!
