Field Trip to Seneca Lake SP Sept 28, 2024

Greetings all,

Nine members of the Society met at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center for the field trip at the Seneca Lake State Park today - Kevin A., Holly N., Steve & Lori V., Carol K., Leslie P., Allyn P., Inge R. and Lyn J.  The birds didn't seem to mind the crowd, also in attendance for the Farmer's Market. Some in our group observed a Peregrine Falcon that put up a large flock of gulls on the roof of the hotel several times. We were not able to ID a shorebird that flew along the lake and dropped down onto the rocks - too big for a spotty. I was certain that I saw a loon waaaay out in the water, but we finally concluded that it was a Double-crested Cormorant. We were pleased to find Inge on her way back from a stroll on the beginning of the Cayuga-Seneca Trail, where we were headed. She had missed us in the crowd at the Welcome Center. That's dedication.
