Field Trip to MNWR Wildlife Dr 10/26/24

Eight of us met at the Visitors Center at the Refuge at 8:00- Holly, Lesile, Steve V., Lori, Kate, Lee, Steve B. and Linda.

We picked up a few passerines at the parking lot. Steve V. was able to set up a conference call between cars so we were able to chat as we drove down the Wildlife Drive, which was great.  There were thousands of ducks out there to sort through, which is why there are so many X's on our checklist. I wanted to spend the time looking, not counting.  We were treated to four adult Bald Eagles hunting the main pool and pushing a lot of ducks into the air. We were surprised to see Great Egret and Common Gallinule so late in the season. 26 species reported.

Holly was on a quest to find an Am Pipit and Leslie had seen some on Armitage Road, so we made that the next stop. We found 10 species, but no pipits. Happy to report that Holly went back on Sunday and found lots and lots.
