EBS Field Trip 2/8/25 East side Cayuga Lake South to Carr’s Cove

Nine members ventured out on cold but nearly windless morning with some hints of sun. Steve & Lori, Kevin, Leslie, Allyn, Steve & Linda, Kate, and Mateo. We drove from site to site with our phones linked from car to car to share sightings as we drove, and got out where it was accessible. The overall number of birds on the water was impressive and made some estimating of numbers and species challenging.

We had a total of 38 species for the day. A count of 10 Bald Eagles overall soaring, perched and eating was one highlight. Sheer numbers of waterfowl was impressive. The count of Canada Geese and Tundra Swans is lower than actual, as sometimes it was difficult to even estimate over long distances. A few Green-wing Teal were still present. A few of our regular passerines were picked up along the way. All in all a great day of birding and ID challenges.
